Ode to Jlseagull

Jlseagull was an online friend of mine long ago in the days of dial-up modems and bulletin board systems. His sense of humor made him quite a lot of fun to chat with. He always had something funny to say, and often responded to perfectly reasonable conversation in quite unconventional ways. One day someone came into the chat room and started asking questions like “What’s a Jlseagull?” After the fellow, who apparently wasn’t too bright, asked this a few more times, the muse struck, and I started typing in poetry as fast as I could think it up. This poem was the result.

Seagull is a seagull, what else can it be?
It can be quite a lot, most definitely.
It can be quite a joker, a cheese-loving bird,
It can be quite intelligent, sometimes quite absurd.

The Seagull is strange, the Seagull is weird,
And from what I can tell, the bird’s growing a beard!
But one thing’s for certain, this I can tell:
Don’t pick on the Seagull, the bird-man’s just swell!
