Complacent You and I

I’d rather face an ugly truth than hear a pretty lie.
I’d rather make the future bright than long for days gone by.
I’d rather face my greatest fears than chase some fleeting high.
The world’s bad enough without complacent you and I.

The world’s breaking into bits, in crisis over there
And here at home, and everywhere. It’s difficult to care.
The bloodless war is raging on, there’s rockets in the air:
Complacency and Decadence and Laziness are there.

So sign me up for service in the Corps of Quality.
It’s time for action, we must fight to find a remedy.
The Drive it takes to sally forth against a foe unseen
Is just the cure that we have sought, the will for us to be.

I’d rather face an ugly truth than hear a pretty lie.
I’d rather make the future bright than long for days gone by.
I’d rather face my greatest fears than chase some fleeting high.
The world’s bad enough without complacent you and I.
